Artists for Renewable Energy
Three artist projects are taking place this summer to highlight the urgent need to transition to renewable energy, putting creativity to work to support a community-wide response to climate change. The three projects are being led by local artists with extensive experience in public art.
The three projects are an upcoming Art Spot installation using solar energy, created by GYDE Architects, a Land Art Generator Solar Mural designed by Peggy Flavin and a mobile public art project presenting the work of Teton County students and a Youth Design Team from JH High School. Called the Green Power Stimulus Plan, this project is led by artist Suzanne Morlock.
The artwork aims to increase awareness of the need to respond as a community to climate change and the importance of the transition to renewable energy. A very concrete goal is to inspire people to enroll in the Lower Valley/ECW's Green Power program. Enrollment of households and businesses is now at approximately 15% in Teton County, far too low. These projects aim to capture the community's imagination and increase enrollment to 30% by next summer. "We hope that when people see these beautiful works of art, they'll be reminded of the importance of enrolling in Green Power," said SM.
The projects are being commissioned by Vista 360°, working closely with partners JH Public Art, ECW, the Town of Jackson and JH Climate Action Collective. with support from the Town & County Arts for All program, the Wyoming Arts Council ARPA,, the Community Foundation of Jackson Hole and many individuals through Old Bill's Fun Run.
